Public Space Design for Flooding: New Opportunities

The research project aims to deepen the discussion around the application of the developed Conceptual Framework of Flood Adaptation Measures applicable in the design of public spaces, in one or more landscape contexts. In a practice oriented way, paying special attention to design and providing a direct application to the contemporary Landscape Architecture project, it is intended to systematize the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary benefits offered by public space design, particularly when considering conventional water management responses practiced in strict and isolated disciplinary areas.

This project also aims to develop from the comprehensive reading of the Landscape concept. In addition to the advantages brought by public space itself, from the ability to promote multifunctional responses to the capacity for community involvement, the envisioned paradigm shift in flood management practices will inevitably change the landscape as we know it. New perspectives in Landscape Architecture Project and Landscape Planning and Management are therefore expected to give rise to new standards that must be systematized and assessed.
